Blog #19: Men in Dresses

By:  Zoe Yllanes Today, men wearing dresses has become more common, especially in the music industry. On April 10th, 2021, Kid Cudi performed his song “Sad People'' in an Off-White floral dress on the show Saturday Night Live. Of course, Cudi got an intensive amount of backlash, but he also received love and support, especially from the LGBTQ+ community.  Before Kid Cudi’s performance and dress criticism, Harry Styles had dealt with the same type of denunciation for wearing a dress. Styles posed for the famous magazine, Vogue, in their December 2020 issue, wearing a Gucci dress and jacket to go along with it.  After the issue came out, Styles received hateful criticism with comments such as “Bring back manly men” from Candace Owens, who was very outspoken about Style’s outfit choice. Although we do not see men in dresses everyday, the trend of men wearing dresses is definitely starting to become a common trend. My question to you all is: How do you feel about men wearing ...

Blog #18: Origin Story

By: Peter Tayo In the realm of superheroes and supervillains, an origin story or back story is always there.  From getting bit by a spider, or getting struck by lightning, there’s always something that drives these superheroes to want to save people. Even though some of these tragic backstories seem common amongst heroes, they have established the heroes into who they are. Batman, Superman, Spider-man, all had tragic backstories, however, they ended up being a symbol of hope and rising above adversity in their respective universes. My question:  Translating this to the real world, what would be your origin story, what drives you every day to want you to achieve your dreams? What’s the origin of your dream?

Blog #17: Out With the Old - In With the New!

By: Anthony Villanelle  Like many people I grew up watching TV, many channels such as Nickelodeon or the Disney channel brought hours of entertainment to young minds worldwide. Over the past few years, the way we consume our favorite shows and movies has changed; slowly, our favorite shows have switched from primary stream cable services to more streaming services. The change hasn’t been too drastic, considering we could pick whether we want to pay for a streaming service to watch shows and movies on cable; this is all going to change very soon. Disney recently announced that they are slowly going to be shutting down their Disney Channel networks in different regions of the globe in favor of their streaming service Disney+. Many other companies May consider following in Disney’s path and shut down their Cable networks in favor of pushing the streaming platforms.
