A YouTube video made by The Human Society of the United States made a video that went viral called “Save Ralph the Rabbit” Which is a video about Ralph the rabbit and his daily job is being an animal tester for big makeup and hair companies. He says he loves his job and that at least the humans are safe and that it doesn’t matter that he blind in one eye and can’t hear from the other.

Throughout the video he states that he has chemical burns all over his body, and he is in constant pain, and toward the end of the video it shows him in a neck cast, and is blind on both eyes now.

Here is a list of brands that still test on animals

Personally, I do not buy from brands that test on animals because I simply can’t stand the ideas of little animals being hurt and killed through this process.

My question to you…

What are your thoughts on the video, and about purchasing from brands that test on animals?

  1. Wow, Gianella. Very interesting and engaging with the video and various images. I have to admit, I am in the category of people that is ignorant when it comes to animal testing on cosmetics. I just assume that it's the year 2021 and companies cannot get away with such atrocities.

Seeing a list like the one above is definitely eye-opening. I wish I knew of a solution. What's most upsetting is that many of the names on the list are among the biggest and most lucrative in the industry. How can they be defeated, if not by uprising among customers? Sadly, the majority are like me. Simply ignorant.

Thanks for sharing! Time to go clean out my makeup drawer...

  2. Thank you for bringing awareness to this topic! I have watched the video and have been very upset about it. I have made the choice to stop using makeup that does animal testing a few years ago. I remember my mother telling me what procedures are done during animal testing and knowing then that I couldn't support certain brands anymore. This is a conversation that should be mentioned more often. Thank you!

  3. Although I have seen this video recommended to me on YouTube, I haven’t watched it until now. The video definitely gets its point across and is really well made. I didn’t realize how many companies test on animals. It showed me how unaware I am of how companies test their products. I will definitely be looking into how the products I use are tested after this.

  4. The video was very eye opening. As someone who doesn't use makeup this video made me even more aware of the horror and cruelty that animals have to go through in order to keep us safe. This is a conversation that needs to be discussed in order for it to change because like the video said, “no animal should have to suffer and die in the name society.” Thank you for sharing this video, there needs to be more awareness for animal rights.

  5. I had seen "Save Ralph" circulating on the internet, but I hadn't considered watching it until I came to comment on this post; now, I'm glad to have seen it. Despite being only (almost) 4 minutes long, it still carries an extremely strong message, and is somewhat painful to watch. Even though it may be hard to take in, we need to acknowledge the fact that this problem *is* real and *does* happen. I am definitely against testing on animals, and purchasing from brands that do test on animals. While I don't usually wear makeup, I'll try to keep in minds what brands *not* to purchase from.

  6. This video is very sad and although it is unrealistic for animals to talk and tell their story, we can assume how it is in reality. I think this video is a good representation of the animal-testing world. This also speaks to the audience with emotion, but regardless, I was motivated even more to not buy animal-tested products. I am also glad you put down a list of brands that test their products on animals.

  7. The video is heartbreaking; it helps people understand the problem, though. A family member told me about this a while back, and since then, I’ve been cautious with what I buy to make sure that there’s no animal testing done. I care too much for animals to see them tested on, And I’m glad there were videos out there to help people see this.

  8. I still do not know why animal testing is still legal. Especially because human technology has advanced beyond comprehension where we can replace actual animals with artificial intelligence. The video illustrates to viewers that animal testing is still present and overpriced and tacky brands like Dior, Tom Ford, and Burberry are still using animals for their products.

  9. Hi Gianella, I appreciate you bringing this topic to light to help spread awareness on it. I've been seeing this video around, and I was devastated after I watched it. It's disturbing and horrendous how these brands test on animals for their gain to determine if these products are safe for us humans to use. After this video, I'm determined to lower my usage of animal products to stop buying them altogether. There are also alternatives and better products out there that do not test on animals. I think more brands today are realizing and making their products cruelty-free. Hopefully, soon more brands will follow!. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Wow, I never realized so many brands tests their products on animals! That is horrible to know. I'm surprised this practice is still legal. Looking over the list of brands, I can say I'm lucky enough to already not use any products from those brands. Although, if I did I would be sure to avoid purchasing from those brands. Thanks for bringing attention to this issue. As I wish the public could hear about this more.

  11. I've never seen this video, but jeez does it put it into perspective. Honestly, I thought companies stopped testing on animals a while ago, but it's wild to hear that common companies still do. I'm glad you brought this issue up, I can't believe it's still legal. This add really showcased how animals can be effective and it did in fact make me mad. I hope more companies will switch to being cruelty free in the future.

  12. This is an amazing topic to inform individuals on so they're truly aware of what companies and brands they are supporting financially. Testing on animals is not only ethically wrong but it is completely unnecessary. Animals have all the same biological reactions as human beings. They can feel extensive amounts of pain, stress and anxiety that are associated with the testing protocols. This video showed the true nature of how cruel companies can be in the name of making profit. Animals should not be subjected to genuine torture for the production of makeup and beauty items.
